Redistricting

This year, I will run for re-election in the newly drawn 34th Senate District. The district sits entirely within Fairfax County. The district’s northern boundary is the Beltway (I-495). Its southern boundary is the Occoquan River. Its eastern boundary is the Potomac River, and in the west, the border follows the railroad tracks, Pohick Creek and Ox Road (Rt. 123). It is nearly the same boundaries represented by my predecessor, Joe Gartlan, for two decades.

Map of the new 34th Senate District

The district includes the Mt. Vernon and Franconia Magisterial Districts. It includes most of Fairfax County Public School’s Region 3, including the West Potomac, Mt. Vernon, Edison, Hayfield, and South County High School Pyramids. It excludes the Lewis High School part of Region 3. The 34th overlaps with four Delegate districts including the 16th (Sickles), 17th (Krizek), 18th (Tran), and 19th (Vacant). The first three of those are entirely within Fairfax County and the 19th is primarily Prince William County.

The District is majority minority. 46.3% of its constituents identify as White, 20.8% Hispanic, 19% Black, 12% Multiracial, 11.3% Asian, and 10.6% other. The Census Bureau will likely release more information about the district in the coming months.

While I am saddened I will no longer represent the areas of Prince William and Stafford Counties where I have devoted significant time bringing solutions, I am excited to have the opportunity to be reunited with many of my former constituents I represented when I was the 44th District Delegate, including much of my old elementary, intermediate, and high school pyramid.

Until new Senators are elected along the new lines, constituents in Prince William and Stafford Counties can still reach out to my office if they need assistance or any requests. Due to redistricting, areas of Prince William and Stafford Counties currently in the 36th Senate District have been split and will be represented by either the 33rd, 29th, or 27th Senate Districts.
