Scott A. Surovell

Senator Scott Surovell is a committed public servant, a fighter for human rights, and a proactive leader. Known for his dedication to progressive reforms and hands-on approach to legislating, he has served in the Senate of Virginia since 2015 and the House of Delegates from 2009-2015. Scott was born and raised in the Tauxemont Community in Mount Vernon. He graduated from West Potomac High School and spent his summers working at local small businesses. Scott went to James Madison University for college and graduated from UVA Law before co-founding a law firm with 20 attorneys serving Fairfax residents. He lives in a home once owned by his grandparents along with his wife Erinn Madden where they have raised four children who attended Fairfax County Public Schools.

● Required background checks for all firearms transfers with reasonable exceptions such as family transfers, bequests, or gun shows (SB 70, 2020)
● Reinstated Virginia’s “One-Gun-A-Month” Rule (SB 69, 2020)

● Created the Voluntary Do Not Sell Firearms List (SB 436)
● Allowing localities to regulate firearms on government property and government permitted events (SB35)
● Passed the Virginia Clean Economy Act, reducing the state’s carbons emissions to zero by 2050
